Google Phone

Back in April I dropped Orange after more than 10 years to get my hands on HTC smart G1 smart phone running Android the pico OS by Google massive. Within a month we had software keyboard and a large selection of new apps to compliment the great range of tools available.

I got a great deal from the business department at T-Mobile at sub £30 a month inc insurance, unlimited data, SMS, landline calls and 1000 mins to mobile networks. It really took me quite a while to get over the sluggish response and thumb fatigue to the point now where I am looking out for a suitable next generation handset.

In the meantime I continue to add new tools and dispose of the worst of those standard and hastily installed applets I have no real use for. In order to get through my long days I added a second higher power battery which is often needed. With the recent addition of Layars I see that battery live shorted again as it hammers the GPS unit which is otherwise off.

So at last applications that  open up great opportunities for development and consolidation of location based services like OWN and more recently Bubbles/Phonk.

SPC Policed

During November 2008 I visited the old Police Station in Deptford to meet with Anthony leading the TemporaryContemporary move to the building. I was there in response to his wish to have wireless LAN installed so the resident artists and their friends/vistors get open access.

We had a good chat and scout about the building which confirmed easy access to the roof for antenna install and the deserted communications room where all the old cabinets, structured ethernet, voice  and cctv cabling converge. So agreed to reinstate a couple of IP switches and add some local servers to process file exchange and VOIP services for those taking spaces..

We have still to return and install the missing bits and have sourced replacement equipment and prepared a general data server to get them started. see the progress at http://policed.wordpress.com

Winksite

Just found winksite.. a very tidy cms for mobil phone wap stuff .. looks like the hand of Kevin ov okchicken fame to me. Anyway they offer a wedge of tools and a link script which I am dropping in here to see how it goes..! Hmm that didn’t work .. will try a more conventional page here pah just for US sms… more later..

Yes I have an iPhone! It’s not one I. Use to make calls but to keep in touch with the other aspects of development going on. today I have added a wordpress tool which as you can see worlds well enough to add comments to this and other WP sites i look after like

Rezillos

I made up these Rezillos pages to celebrate a great gig at Astoria2 we attended in 2003. The video we sneaked is up on youtube along with clips from others also there and filming.. there is also a full copy of ‘can’t stand the rezillos’ off my old vinyl in MP3 format and presented via a version of the LP insert sheet.

Seems when I made these pages i didn’t include metadata so the search engines have never picked up on it so I am experimenting to see what it will take to get it in the listings now.

sharpen up

Not a great start to 2008 with a break in at my home on the 3rd relieving us of a well stocked iMac and my workbag lapdog, cameras etc. The worst of it a cliche’ loss of much family image and personal data leaving a hole where 2007 should be.

On the upside its a kick in the arse which will sharpen me up!

filmclub2008

Have been asked to help Pepys residents set up and operate a Filmclub in comunity2000 social centre. Conroy at the centre has secured a fund and purchase av equipment including a video projector to equip the club and will accommodate the installation and storage of the equipment. It is expected that at least one event a month will be possible and that as well as a feature film that local documentary and short films will form part of the program. The first step is to open up a membership system online so folk can join and help during the install and preparation for a first event during December and be ready to run regular event all 2008.

Ahoy Ahoy

The Ahoy centre is a river sports training centre in Stowage, Deptford. They offer dissadvantaged and disabled specialist access to the Thames by sailing dingy, Rowing boats and motor powered inflatable speeders!

They recently added a node to Boundless and I have signed up to their volunteer scheme which will eventually allow me some training time and access to the river boats they have
